For years, marine surveyors have had to use hand written reports or spend valuable time re-entering all their data onto a computer. Notebook computers have not helped because they are bulky and only have a few hours of battery life. Pocket SurveyMate is the perfect answer.

Category List
The category screen shows the list of categories included with the standard Marine Survey Template. Categories can be added, edited, or deleted using the PC based software called LibraryEditor that ships with the system. By changing the categories and their associated steps, materials and comments, you can create other templates such as a Marine Damage Survey, Appraisal Valuation Inspection or any type of vessel survey you may do.
Step List
A simple tap of the pen or mouse and you go directly to a category. There you will find all the familiar sub-categories, or steps, for collecting information consistent with industry standards of practice based on SAMS. Within each step in the step list are four pieces of data associated with each step– a rating, materials, comments and step info. Once again these steps and their associated ratings, materials and comments are completely definable by the surveyor using the PC based program LibraryEditor.
Material List
The materials screen shows a typical Materials list that is completely definable by the user. As many materials as apply can be checked simply by tapping it with the stylus or mouse. By designating the Material with an asterisk using the PC based program LibraryEditor, a Material comment can be used. Every time the material is checked, its associated comment will appear in the comment section.
Comment Entry Screen
Comments applicable to the step appear in the comment picklist. Over a thousand common comments are available in the system right out of the box or you can add comments on site or back at the office by using the PC-based LibraryEditor. Enter appropriate comments with a few easy taps of the pen either one at a time or several at once using the powerful multi-picker option. Choose comments appropriate to the marine survey and watch as they quickly populate the comment window.
Step Info Screen
Information to help do your survey is available just be tapping on the "Info" tab for any Step while doing a marine survey. This information could be ABYC information, helpful hints, a list of wire gauges or a list of serial numbers or products that have been recalled. It is completely customizable.
Printing
Selecting the "Print Inspection" radio button will print out the entire survey with all the data you collected for the current marine survey. A page break is inserted after every Category. This makes it easier to reprint a single Category without having to reprint the entire report. If the "Continuous" check box is checked this suppresses the page break and each new Category and its associated Steps are printed after the previous Category in a continuous report that makes the report shorter and quicker. The Summary Report is a condensed report that only prints out the Steps and Comments that were flagged as significant and should appear on the Summary. This is controlled by the rating choice that is selected for each Step. An example could be a rating choice called "Defects" that would force the Step and any Comments for that Step to print on the Summary report.

Here is where you enter general information about the marine survey such as Address of where the vessel was surveyed at, Survey date, Purpose for SUrvey, Client Name, etc. Notice that some fields have a button with a black triangle next to them. This button indicates a popup list associated with the field for quick entry of common data. You can add your own items to these pick lists. One of the most important items to complete on the Inspection Setup Screen is the Document Type field. This field determines what Categories show in the Category List when it is selected. These Document Types may range from a "Powerboat Survey" to a Sailboat Survey", "Marine Damage Survey" etc.

Ratings
The Rating column consists of a drop down list of each Step's rating choices. These drop-down lists may be different for each Step. Some may have a "Yes, No" choice and others may have the normal "Functional, Marginal, Hazardous" Rating. Some Steps may have no Rating choices at all. These ratings are all user-definable in the LibraryEditor and are what determines what goes to the Summary Report.
Comment Picker
Some comments may contain an insertion caret ("^"). When a comment containing this caret is picked the user will be prompted to supply information to “fill-in-the-blank” for that comment. You can also have another picker list inside one of your comments. An example could be "Limited review due to ^pReview^." where the "pReview" List item has the following list items (“appliance”, “junk”, “boxes”, “furniture”). This makes it possible to pick one of these choices to fill in the blank instead of writing or typing it in.
